Inverewe Garden Restaurant,

The National Trust for Scotland.

project type.

Furniture Design & 3D Visualisation.

The project was a collaboration with the National Trust of Scotland to aid in renovating their restaurant for the Inverewe Gardens. With this project at Inside Out Contracts, we were asked to conduct a 2D space plan and a 3D visualisation of the chosen layout. We wanted to keep the earthly tones of the restaurant’s surroundings so a mutual palette was utilised for the fabrics to bend with the whites and natural woods of the frames.

First we created initial space plans, which utilised and adapted the area into new sections to help cater for the larger variety of clients that use the restaurant. We then implemented initial visuals of the furniture for the client to see the choice of upholstery finishes. As well as loose furniture Inside Out also produced a large run of banquette seating designed to help break up the restaurant and the line of the sight of the user in the area. For the visual we had to recreate the interior of the restaurant. This proved to be quite a challenge and took longer than initially anticipated due to the nature of the architecture. Another learning curve was to create the exterior foliage as this was a prominent features of the restaurant due to its large windows.

Overall the project turned out very well with minor changes needed. The client was very happy with the visuals and the presentation supplied by Inside Out Contracts, helping to earn additional budget for the project. However the main issue with the visuals was preventing the scene from being too complex and heavy. It was a steep learning curve as having the system crash with a tight deadline was not ideal.

This project was part of a body of work at Inside Out Contracts.
